Do smart toilets need a power point? A Singapore bathroom guide

Yes. A smart toilet runs on electricity, so it needs a power supply near the bowl. In most Singapore bathrooms that means one socket added within reach of the toilet, which is a short job for an electrician and a very short one if the bathroom is already being renovated.

Why the socket is the thing to sort first

Everything a smart toilet does that a standard bowl does not is electrical. The seat warms, the sensors open the lid, the nozzle extends and retracts, the dryer runs, the night light comes on when you approach. All of it draws power, and it draws it continuously rather than only when you flush.

That makes the socket the first decision, not the last one. Choose the bowl and the power together and the installation is straightforward. Choose the bowl first and discover there is nothing to plug it into and you are booking a second trade.

Where the socket goes

Beside the bowl, within reach of its cable, and high enough to stay away from splashing. Your electrician will know the local requirements for a wet area better than any web page does, and the practical brief you give them is short: a socket near the toilet, on its own supply, for an appliance that stays plugged in.

What varies is how your bathroom is already wired. Some Singapore bathrooms have a spare point sitting close enough to use. Many have power at the water heater and nothing at the toilet. A few have nothing in the room at all beyond the light. Which of the three you have decides whether this is a ten-minute job or a morning’s work.

If the bathroom is being renovated

Say it while the walls are open. Adding a point during a renovation is close to free compared with chasing a new cable through finished tiling afterwards, and it is the single cheapest thing you can do to keep the smart toilet option open even if you have not chosen a model yet.

Tell your contractor two numbers at the same time: where the power goes, and the setout from the wall to the centre of the waste outlet. Between them they settle almost every fitting question.

If you are replacing a toilet in a bathroom you already live in

You do not need to renovate. You need one point added near the bowl, which an electrician can do without touching the rest of the room. Everything else about the installation is the same as a standard toilet: the old bowl is hacked out and disposed of free of charge, and the new one goes in where it was.

What happens in a power cut

The bowls carry power outage flushing, so losing power does not leave you unable to flush.

The range, and where to see it

The smart toilet bowls page holds all eight models across three function levels. Every one of them needs a supply near the bowl, from the five-function models up to the twenty-five function ones.

Ask your electrician to add a proper point instead. It is a small job, and it is the version that sits safely in a bathroom for years.

Then one gets added. It is a short job on its own, and close to free if the bathroom is already being renovated, which is why it is worth raising with your contractor early.

Yes. Power outage flushing is built in.
